Field Visit and Monitoring of the “Integrated Actions for Building Resilient Communities” Project in Hambala Wamena District
The “Integrated Actions for Building Resilience Communities” project, funded by Menschen für Menschen Switzerland (MfMCH) and implemented by EWNRA, is progressing steadily, as demonstrated by the ongoing field monitoring visit. The project, which aims to support economically vulnerable populations, is currently benefiting several rural and semi-urban communities in Hambala Wamena District, including seven rural kebeles and one semi-urban community.
During the field visit, the monitoring team assessed the implementation of various agricultural activities carried out by the project’s beneficiaries. These activities include the cultivation of barley, broad beans, coffee seedlings, potato production, and sheep rearing. The team specifically visited kebeles such as Chorso Golja, Sike Bokosa, and Chorso Bule, where they observed and evaluated key agricultural initiatives like enset seedling cultivation, potato seed multiplication, and sheep fattening.
In addition to these agricultural activities, the team visited a hand-dug well rehabilitation site in Chorso Golja Kebele, which is part of the project’s efforts to improve water access. They also evaluated an ox fattening initiative in Chorso Bule Kebele. A standout visit was to a recently established multipurpose cooperative in Chorso Bule, which is already showing promising progress despite being a new organization. The team commended the cooperative’s efforts and pledged future support to help strengthen its activities.
The monitoring team acknowledged the positive progress made by the beneficiaries and the project’s experts and officers. They also identified areas where improvements could be made and provided valuable recommendations to address these gaps. The beneficiaries expressed their deep gratitude for the support they have received, highlighting the significant impact the project has had on their lives. Many promised to continue working hard and to achieve even greater results by the time of the next monitoring visit.
The project, which is scheduled to run until June 30, 2026, remains focused on building the resilience of local communities through integrated agricultural practices. It is also supported by various local government institutions and partners, ensuring its sustainability and long-term impact.
The team will continue its monitoring tomorrow to the remaining Kebeles of the Woreda.
