Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) is an Ethiopian Residents Charity Organization, non-political, non-religious and not-for-profit Local NGO working in areas of Sustainable Natural Resources Management (forests, wetlands and agro-ecosystems) and Development (livelihoods, etc.)

With the aim to achieve the dual goals of environment and development in Ethiopia, EWNRA is looking to hire professionals to fill the following vacant posts for the project entitled “Forest Conservation through Traceable Supply Chain Development for Wild Coffee and Forest Honey in Southwest Ethiopia”. The project is funded by Jersey Overseas Aid (JoA) and implemented in partnership with the University of Huddersfield and Bees for Development in Anderacha and Sheko woredas of Sheka and Bench-Sheko zones, SWEPRS. The ultimate goal of the project is to establish sustainable and profitable supply chains for forest honey and wild coffee that support resilient livelihoods and well managed forests in South West Ethiopia, more specifically in Anderacha and Sheko woredas of Sheka and Bench-Sheko Zones.


Job Title 1: Honey Marketing and Livelihood Facilitator

Quantity required: one

Duty station: Andercha Woreda, Sheka Zone,  

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of and accountable to the Forest Conservation through traceable supply chain development for wild coffee and forest honey in southwest Ethiopia project, the Honey Marketing and Livelihood Facilitator will have the following duties and responsibilities: –

  1. Undertake and regular follow up of all project activities in the project intervention kebeles within Andracha Woreda, related with honey value chain development (Apiary management, Beekeeping (BK), honey production, processing and postharvest handling etc), to ensure a proper record of information at all levels (kebele to woreda).
  2.  Collaborate and closely work with farmers involved in the BK activities and DAs and woreda level Animal and Fishery Development Office staff to ensure that lessons learned are also used by farmers/bee keepers residing within the focal and neighboring Kebeles.
  3. Contribute to the design of a training programme; coordinate with other concerned project staff to help elaborate training and extension materials for government staff, community-based organizations and individual farmers, with focus on local realities/conditions in the respective woreda and Kebeles.
  4. In close coordination and collaboration with GO staff follow up the distribution of beehives and other beekeeping accessories, collection of the credit and other project related tasks.
  5. In close coordination and collaboration with GO staff facilitate technical supports for community-based organizations and individual farmers, in the areas of BK, Honey production, Processing, Post-harvest Handling, value chain analysis, quality assurance systems and Marketing
  6. In collaboration with the respective government staff and the project, organize the quarterly review / monitoring meetings and other meetings with the GO-staff and other stakeholders (with in his/her woreda of assignment) involved in the project, for coordination, planning and monitoring of project.
  7. Coordinate and undertake data collection and compilation of the studies and participatory research activities at woreda and Kebele levels.
  8. Coordinate and take a leading role in testing the prototype electronic traceability and quality assurance (QA) systems and provide feedback on its use.
  9. Undertake regular and extensive field visits and provide on-job trainings to support individual farmers to strengthen their capacities in apiary management, beekeeping, honey Production, Processing and Post-harvest Handling.
  10. Perform other organizational and project related tasks that may be required by the technical team leader and/or Coordination Office.

Qualifications and Experience: the potential candidate for the post should have Bachelor Degree from recognized Universities/Colleges in Animal Husbandry/ science, Apiculture and related fields. Besides, she/he should have at least four years and above demonstrable work experience in areas of Beekeeping, local (community) institution development, community consultation and rural appraisal and development of rural cooperatives. NGO experience is an advantage.

Knowledge of local language is mandatory for the candidates.

Job Title 2: Coffee Marketing and Livelihood Facilitator

Quantity required: one

Duty station: Sheko Woreda, Bench-Sheko Zone

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of and accountable to the Forest Conservation through traceable supply chain development for wild coffee and forest honey in southwest Ethiopia project, the Coffee Marketing and Livelihood Officer, will have the following duties and responsibilities: –

  1. Undertake and regular follow up of all project activities in the woreda, related with coffee value chain development (forest coffee management, production, processing and postharvest handling etc), to ensure a proper record of information at all levels (kebele to woreda).
  2.  Collaborate and closely work with farmers involved in the forest coffee management activities and DAs and woreda level Coffee and Tea Office staff to ensure that lessons learned are also used by farmers residing within the focal and neighbouring Kebeles.
  3. Contribute to the design of a training programme; coordinate with other concerned project staff to help elaborate training and extension materials for government staff, community-based organizations and individual farmers, with focus on local realities/conditions in the respective woreda and Kebeles.
  4. In close coordination and collaboration with GO staff follow up the distribution of materials that helps to improve coffee quality and other project related tasks.
