Letter of gratitude to EWNRA from Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada)

The Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada) has appreciated the Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) and its leadership in particular the Executive Director, Afework Hailu Gebrewold, for their crucial role in the success of the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Program (4R-NSP) in Ethiopia.

From April 2019 to March 2024, EWNRA’s leadership not only as an implementor of projects, but also as part of the National Advisory Committee was instrumental in driving sustainable agriculture and increasing women’s representation in cooperative leadership roles. The program, a collaboration involving Global Affairs Canada and Fertilizer Canada, aimed to boost crop yields and empower female farmers by promoting the “4R” principles: Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place.

CDF Canada praised EWNRA’s contributions in Ethiopia, especially its collaboration with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) to influence national fertilizer policies. EWNRA’s leadership also supported 16 cooperatives, facilitating credit access for over 1,600 farmers, many of whom were women.

In a letter of gratitude, signed by H.E. Benoit Andre, the Executive Director CDF Canada highlighted EWNRA’s dedication to gender-sensitive approaches, which empowered women to take on prominent roles in rural communities. With the program’s conclusion, CDF Canada expressed hope that the partnerships and frameworks established will continue to drive sustainable agriculture in Ethiopia.

As a partner EWNRA is also grateful for the supports done by CDF Canada and Canadian government behalf of the addressed poor community. We too hope that this partnership will be back soon to sustain our achievements in the community.
