The Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) has been granted observer status to the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
As UNCCD Confirmed this with an official letter dated 22 September 2026, the decision was made by the 17th Session of the UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP17) following a recommendation by the UNCCD Secretariat. The accreditation is valid for all future sessions of the COP and its Subsidiary Bodies.
As an accredited observer, EWNRA will automatically receive official invitations to attend sessions of the COP and its Subsidiary Bodies, providing the organization with an opportunity to participate in the UNCCD Convention process.
The UNCCD Secretariat also requested EWNRA to keep it informed of organizational changes and activities relevant to the Convention process. The organization has been authorized to describe its status as “CSO accredited to the Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD” on its letterhead.
The UNCCD Secretariat congratulated EWNRA on its accreditation and expressed its expectation for productive and rewarding collaboration with the organization and its representatives.
The accreditation marks an important opportunity for EWNRA to engage as a civil society organization in international discussions and processes under the UNCCD.
