Three Water Springs Completed and Handed Over to the communities in Hambela Wamena District.

Financed by Menschen für Menschen Switzerland (MfM CH), EWNRA’s construction of three water springs on spot developments has been successfully completed and handed over to the communities and local government bodies in Dimtu Tora (2) and Chorso Bule villages of Hambela Wamena district. The project, which includes three washing basins, aims to provide clean and accessible drinking water to 402 households in the area.

Some members of the community have expressed their gratitudes to the donor (MfM CH) and EWNRA for saving their lives from water related problems. The handover is conducted on April 11, 2024.

The majority of the community in Hambela Wamena district has been facing a severe shortage of drinking water, leading to health concerns due to the reliance on unprotected water sources exposed to contamination. This situation has put the community at risk of waterborne diseases such as AWD, intestinal parasites, Typhoid, and Giardiasis resulting in additional costs for healthcare and transportation.

The completion of the water sources is expected to have a significant impact on reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases among residents of all ages. Moreover, it will save time spent on fetching water, particularly benefiting girls and women in the community.

As the district possesses potential groundwater and surface water sources, the newly developed water springs mark a critical step towards providing clean and safe drinking water to the residents of Hambela Wamena district, improving their overall health and well-being.

Since January 1st, 2024, Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) has launched a new project named “Integrated Actions for Building Resilient Communities’’ fully financed by Menschen für Menschen Switzerland (MfM CH) in Hambela Wamena district of West Guji zone.
