Project Goal/General Objective to maintain the gene pool of Coffea Arabica in the forests of Bench Maji and Sheka Zones, in SNNPR Regional State, south west Ethiopia.
Objective to conserve effectively wild coffee and related biodiversity by communities using participatory forest management, with a sustainable system of devolved forest management which enhances community wellbeing and livelihoods and motivates communities and government to maintain the forest in Bench Maji and Sheka zones.
Specific Objectives To increase by 25,000ha the area ofnatural forest under community based PFM in Bench Maji and ShekaZones. To facilitate joint responsibility for and management of the natural forest by communities and government agencies. To provide further support to the 60,000ha of natural forest already under community based PFM in Sheko, North Bench, Guraferda and Yeki woredas. To help ensure long term management of the natural forest through support for sustainable income generating schemes based on NTFPs.

Funding Agency Three separate organizations are funding the project. Namely Waterloo Foundation contributes 27%, Christensen Fund contributes 6% and University of Huddersfield contributes 67% of the budget. University of Huddersfield is the one who entered an agreement with EWNRA for project execution and responsible for channeling the whole fund.
